"House of Dreamers"
This summer, the Villa Empain returns to its original vocation as a home, inviting visitors to discover the work of established and emerging artists, in a space that was itself a furnished dwelling.
The group exhibition House of Dreamers imagines a poetic stroll through the spaces of the Villa Empain. As they move through the rooms and salons, the works brought together explore both the architectural qualities of the spaces and their uses. The exhibition takes the form of a recomposed interior, a house rediscovered through the creation of large-scale in situ sets, where spaces are inhabited by the life of works and objects. This thematic tour raises the question of the relationship between artists and domestic space, summoning up the notion of the decorative in modern and contemporary art.
House of Dreamers praises the dream as a possible answer to living life differently, and proposes a re-enchantment of everyday life, carrying poetic, political and social messages.
