Following on from the Peter Doig and Nathanaëlle Herbelin exhibitions, the Musée d'Orsay continues to explore its relationship with contemporary painting, with an afternoon of exceptional encounters.

Orchestrated by the artist Thomas Lévy-Lasne, the event will bring together eighty contemporary painters alongside one of their works in the museum's galleries. This one-day event, on a scale never seen before, will demonstrate the vitality of the French art scene, still too little known by the general public, and will highlight several generations of artists, the gradual feminisation of the profession and the great stylistic variety of approaches.

Each artist will occupy a chosen place in the nave, next to his or her painting, in a gap in the display that echoes the Musée d'Orsay collections, an undisputed reference and inexhaustible source of inspiration for them. It's a rare opportunity: as well as enjoying an unprecedented panorama of current painting, visitors will have the chance to talk to the painters about their work, their careers and their intentions.

To build up to the event or continue the dialogue afterwards, visitors can consult the lejourdespeintres.com website, as well as the video interviews with each of the artists produced as part of the Twitch/YouTube channel ‘Les apparences’.

Painters' Day will give visitors to the Musée d'Orsay an opportunity to hear the precious words of those who produce art, in a museum that is contemporary with them. It's an opportunity to bring their voices into the museum, and a reminder that painters speak a language that is cultured but understandable and alive: the language of the artist.
