Arcane Press and Derouillon are pleased to invite you to the launch of the book After Pheidias by Ben Broome on April 5th. The event will start by a conversation between curator Ben Broome, artist Isabelle Cornaro, and curator, editor, and writer Salomé Burstein, moderated by editor Antoine Clauss, marking the closing of the eponymous exhibition curated and authored by Ben Broome.

After Pheidias is a book published in the context of the eponymous show (Galerie Derouillon, Paris, March 2025). As a curator, a position of authority he questions along the way, Ben Broome decided to show artworks found in the flea markets of Paris, their last stop before either the trash or becoming part of someone’s domestic decoration.
For this book, Ben Broome speaks to three artists—Isabelle Cornaro, Olukemi Lijadu & Zazou Roddam—to explore the parameters of a “market practice”; artists who use the informal economies of markets as a point of departure for the creation of their work. Markets as sites of inspiration or points of departure for art-making exist in relation to an individual’s knowledge. Though he initially refers to flea markets, the question of the art market soon emerges. With this in mind, both are at play.
